Sholay is a 1975 Indian Hindi-language action adventure film directed by Ramesh Sippy and written by Salim–Javed. It stars Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, and A. K. Hangal. It tells the story of two petty criminals, Jai (Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra), who are hired by a retired police officer, Thakur Baldev Singh (Kumar), to capture a notorious bandit, Gabbar Singh (Khan), and his gang.
The film was a critical and commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of all time for over 15 years.
